Another awesome year was had. You just dont know how addicting it is to go out west and spot and stalk trophy mule deer.
Here are some pics of the trip and I would like to say sorry because I didnt take many because I was really having to work at these deer this year. I dont have any pics of the one that got away as usual but I do have some pics of my consilation 200 pound dry doe.

and some tasty treats.
It was now Friday the last day of Archery and time was of the essence. I had already made a really bad mistake on the second day and made a horrible shot on a 6 x 5 and ended up giving him a flesh wound (confirmed this two days later as he eluded me three more times)

It makes you wonder how do you miss a 275 pound animal at 5-7 yards

Ok water under the bridge
Friday overcast 33 degrees wind @ 15-20 NW and occasional snow showers. My wifes uncle tells me he has just seen a lone doe go into a canyon and points to where she is. So I start the 100 yard trek down into the canyon and ease around the corner of the finger and look back into the coolie and I see ears and I range it at 40 yards. I look around and this is going to be next to impossible and look for other options. Ok wind is in my face thats good. Its a slight uphill grade (Quieter and easier to stalk that way) But theres no cover between us. So I'm still trying to figure this out.

I know I'll go up on top of the finger and look over the edge. So I back out and quietly ease my way up to the top. I find me some soap weeds (Yucca Plants) to hide behind and catch my breath. I range it and its now 29 yards straight across to the other side and I still have room to stalk. I get into final position and am basically walking on my knees and I am at half draw when I get to the edge. I get there and and as I figured the coolie is slam full of deer. Ok PICK ONE Shawn and Focus!!! I scan the herd real quick and dont see any bone so I pick one of the longest biggest does. Shes in the middle right around 16 -17 yards I get anchored and release. She just kind a flinches a little and I think to myself no this didnt happen again. Nope it was the extra hair popping razor sharp broadhead that went straight through her and the cut was so clean that she really didnt know what was happening to her.
The rest of the does bound away and she is trying to do the same and I can already tell that she is a dead deer. I sit down and wait as she bounds up the side of the canyon and topples heels over on top of the canyon. She had expired is a really good spot. about 100 yards from the edge of the wheat field.
I continue to sit there in awe as to what I have just pulled off and I thank the lord for his beautiful creatures that he has given us.
