Does it matter for walk back tuning if it is done on the shorter distances or if it is done at the longer, say 30,40,50,60 yards? Does it give the same result? I will be working on this over the weekend to get ready for 3d and want to make sure I can get it as good as I can.

I'm a novice and have been struggling with getting my bow to shoot straight. Tried paper tuning. Took it to someone who was supposed to know what was up. Moved my pins, moved the rest, mostly guessing. Not surprising, I never got any consistency. I just blamed my "short riser" Black Max II. Then I read this "walk back" method, went home, followed the directions and, I kid you not, I am hitting where I am aiming.

The target is for stopping the arrow to reference in relation to the hanging string

But you are walking back from 3 yards to 10 yards. that not really doing anything drastic is it? what about 20 and 30 and 40 ?

Big Smile Same Info ..just at longer distance info will be more Exaggerated..or "Drastic"...if arrow is planning badly that may even give you false info at longer distance...as one tunes bow on how arrow leaves bow ..

Clear like mud Laughing

This has helped a bunch setting up the new Z7, but part of my older addled brain matter is wondering should this not be done with bare shafts at 9 yards or does it matter. i guess i am sort of remembering some old martin archery material i read years ago...

thanks

Big Smile Hence the title... "Modified Close Method", Fletched arrows will show any interference with rest..etc.while bare shafts may not.....
Thumb Up

Neil- should i try this method for the walk back everyone has been telling me to do, or should i try the old method? i have fletching contact on my arrows and i cant seem to figure out why im getting it. also, for the close method, is this supposed to be done WITH fletched arrows, or without?

I did the walk back to 40 yards and it works great! I now have this chart in my arrow tuning book.
