Another great video showing Mathews innovation at work. It also shows the only thing I was disappointed with about the Dren. The bow I shot at the shop was also a 70# backed down to 62# and as you can see from the video, the limb bolt just sits there exposed.
Now I'm sure functionally it is probably fine but aesthetically speaking, being able to see the shank of the limb bolt just didn't do much for me. It just appears that something is missing when the limb bolts are backed out. JMO

What type of bow shooter is this thing in? The reason I ask is that the riser moves a lot. Is the riser actually bending or is the bow shooter allowing the bow to move?
Some of you folks worry about looks a little too much. The bolt being exposed is an odd worry. I have folks saying they would not get a Dren unless they could get matching camo stabilizer/quiver/rest. Maybe I am just so pretty that I don't have to compensate for my bow (I used this icon because I don't have the yaking one)!!

I am pretty sure this is done out of a hooter shooter. All risers flex under the forces from the limbs and string. Kinda neat aint it. I would imaging Carbon fiber risers can flex a lot more. It would be almost impossible to make a riser that doesnt flex under full draw that the average person could hold and shoot. Dont worry about it. Every bridge you drive over, even skyscrapers are all engineered to flex under load.

I just went back and watched the first film. Even though I had watched it 25 times or so I never noticed how much the riser flexed until I saw this close up of the damper. It is just weird too me that a piece of metal could flex this much. It just seems to my simple brain to be very rigid. Man how do we not wear out our bows once a week with all the moving that goes on that can only be seen in the slo-mo video.
I'm glad I don't have a hooter shooter and a slo-mo camera.... I'd never sleep!!

Jon, the video clip is more than cool and enlightening. Thank you and pleas keep em coming.
Gators, thank you for the info on damping the different frequency vibrations, very informative.

The lower frequency hand shock vibrations associated with the launch of the arrow tend to be reduced more with the heavier damper weights as it takes more energy to move them and often times the increase in displacement of the elastomer results in more low frequency energy absorption. Depending on the particular set-up these vibrations are generally in the frequency range between 100 and 200 hz and are driven by the set-up and the harness system of the bow.
The higher frequency or ringing vibrations that can be initiated by the shot but may be due to individual components or accessories, tend to be absorbed better by Dampers equipped with the lighter aluminum weights simply because they respond better to and are more efficient at transferring energy at those frequencies.
It is this difference in individuals and their bow set-ups that makes it necessary to offer the different variations in weights and dampers.
| 280+ wrote: | | I have some of the brass weights. Would they increase or decrease movement? Would felt vibration be less? |
Their movement may or may not be slightly different than the aluminum weights but even if the movement is the same, you could be absorbing as much as three times as much energy and I would suspect that most people would feel less vibration. |
Very interesting! Thanks for the info

Watching how the riser and limbs and dampers react to a shot, almost makes you not want to shoot a bow. But those video's are very cool!!

dampers dont' go in backwards
They are identical on the flat sides...that is why they look the same when you turn the bow over and look at the other side

Awesome video! That makes a guy who just ordered a Drenalin even feel better about his decison. Cool! Now, I'll go back to the phone and wait for the pro shop to call and tell me my Drenalin is in

Engineering is Great! I am an M.E. as well.
Can you tell us what arrows you shot at 62# resulting in 305 feet/sec? How many grains did the entire shaft weight? Thanks!

Hey Jon, can you tell us what kind of dampers you have in your bow??
I'm guessing a carbide in the bottom and an aluminum in the top... ??? Am I right?
