Anything wearing that much red should be taken out for dinner, not hunting.

I do think the Z7 is a great bow. And I think the red on a black riser wold make a fine looking target bow. I am also happy that some people like the red on the camo version.
But, I am not happy about the red on a hunting bow for three reasons...
(1) I don't like the way it looks.
(2) It defeats the purpose of having a camo bow.
(3) I do believe it could be a safety issue.
I was hoping to be constructive and provide some sort of feedback to Mathews of a way to improve their product and benefit the entire Mathews consumer family. I regret that my original tone distracted from that, but I do feel that the thread has begun to move in a more constructive direction.
Mathews already offers Custom colored rubber stuff...why not just add black rubber stuff to their custom line and black/grey (whatever color you wat to call it) anodized metal parts (cam piece and roller wheel) to the custom center so that those of us that want a bow without the decoration can have it, without possibly voiding our warrenty through home-made alterations. I would be willing to pay for that, as long as the prices were reasonable, or just make a hunter version of the Z7. |
The way I understand it, the Z7 does come with a set of black dampening stuff as well as the red (so you can use whatever you like). The only red that would be left on the bow would be the cam piece, roller (on the roller guard), and the tip of the quick change axle. Which will take up less surface area than what most people's vanes will show |
Yep...comes with black dampening stuff too..

Now that the Z7 is in production this topic is more or less a suggestion,
complaint or wishful thinking.
Seems it would be cheaper to produce a product of one color because
you don't have to clean and/or change paint nozzels etc. including dip
tanks etc. Should also allow a faster turn around to a finished product
due to less time or passes through the finishing process.
If you compare it to marketing say cars for instance, don't it make
sence to start production with basic or common features like a solid
array of colors (for example) then offer additional CUSTOM features
like detailing and extra HP etc. ?
The car dealers do this sometimes as options or custom orders.
Other colors, add-ons, etc. Hey I remember correctly they used to
charge extra for floor mats and bumbers!.
But you bought the car off the lot out of like 5 solid colors and if you
wanted floor mats or bumbers you had to pay extra.
Just a thought.

I just simply dont like the red on it. I wish the red was black. I have no idea what they were thinking when they put red on it.

In response to the gentleman's comment on finding criticism and expectation of the Mathews Company unfair and distasteful, I respectfully submit the following:
Pre-production customer input and opinion survey ALWAYS drive product development and final design. ANY 21st century company who doesn't understand and implement these core principles as part of their process should expect whatever criticism comes their way after the product is released. Today's competitive retail markets tolerate nothing less than total customer focus.
Reacting to customer requirements after production is ramped up should not be a problem for companies invested in high-tech methodologies; ever heard of Version 1.0; 2.0, 3.0, etc, etc.?????????
As for the "touchy, feely" comments...man up. Mathews did not become the strong, successful company it is today by caving in every time some one questioned their products, made candid, honest remarks, or wrinkled their eyebrows at them. In fact, if I was Mathews, I would seek out these people and ask for all the input they were willing to offer. What a great way to strengthen a product line.
Finally, a forum is like a school; both are just a location for the people that make up and contribute thought and effort to the common purpose. People, students and teachers, ARE the school; it's not the building. People, the contributors, are the forum; it's not the website...THE POINT: It's our forum, not Mathews'. If they chose to close it down due to candid comment, I'd be we'd find another site PDQ.
That should about cover it.

X2.
What color next year? Purple, orange, pink? I can understand that some folks may like the red and I also understand that the small amount of red will probably never effect my hunting. That being said, I am used to my hunting bow being camo and black and I would have liked the option to order one without any red when I pay that kind of money.

Monsterlover got it right. Mathews got to where they are today by listening to what the customer wants. Don't meet the customer's needs and wants, and you'll soon be out of business. This forum makes a great R&D tool for them to constantly improve product and keep their loyal customers satisfied. It seems though that too many times, every time someone on here questions something, some are quick to jump all over them defending Mathews like they have a stake in the company. That's fine, but how is Mathews Inc. supposed to figure out what people dislike and would like them to tweak if everyone is supposed to stay tight lipped? I don't mind the red on the bow so much, but it seems the opinion is split down the middle after reading the replys on this thread. I will say this though......I ordered my Z7 in all black because of the red. If I want a camo hunting bow......I want it camo........pretty simple. If I want bling, I'll buy it black and deck it out to my taste. I did want a camo bow when I ordered, but I figured if it's going to have that much red on it, I might as well buy a black one. I don't use bright fletching, or bright anything when I hunt. Science can tell me all it wants to, but until I can get inside a deer's head and see through its eyes, I won't make any assumptions as to what they can see.

All this for a small piece of the cam that is red? I'm a hunter guys,
and that would not bother me at all. Just like my all black bows have
never bothered the deer..

Hmmmm.... maybe they can take all the red off the ones that dont like red and add it to mine ill take one all red plz. It really wouldnt matter to me what color it was long as it felt good in hand and shot well i can figure out a way to kill something with it if it shoots good. I killed more deer when i was a kid growing up with a bright red recurve than i ever have with any of my compounds.

the red does not bother me a bit. i dont even think its a safety hazzard. When your turkey hunting with a bow your usually in a blind and reguardless the bow doesnt move until you get a shot, your not going to pick it up and wave it around. when your deer hunting your bow just hangs there and doesnt move i dont get the big deal. animals mostly pick up movements not colors. heck i wouldnt care if the made then neon green or blue lol

Your right. I found out this pass year for Coyote hunting a red flannel beats every kind of camo out there when hunting in snow. The simply cannot see red color.
If you dont like the color thats fine. But dont come up with off the wall excuses. I think there should be choice.

Black Magic Marker.
Dont buy the bow.
Buy it and deal with it.
Them's your choices as I see it. |
Whatever happened to "Customer Satisfaction", "Customer Service", and "The Customer is Always Right".
I don't think I am asking for anything unreasonable here. |
Expecting a company to alter production that is full steam ahead is in my opinion unreasonable. Using their private forum to voice your very aggrevated opinion is not only unreasonable but also distastefull. |
Give the guy a break, he is was not being unreasonable or distasteful. The gentleman simply does not prefer red on his bow.

I probably hunt turkey more than anything and I'd go with a Z7 in a heartbeat. The parts on the bow that are red that are unavailable in other colors (e.g. the cam lobe and reverse assist rollers) are so small that if another hunter is close enough to distinguish them as being red then they are also close enough to tell that they are a part of a bow in the hands of a hunter.
IMHO

I agree with you
My Dren LD target bow looks better just the way it came from the factory with black dampers and dark string and cables. I have a rust/kelley green string and sling to put on it right here, but I like the dark, plain, simple look, AND, it is my back up bow for hunting.
Flame on boys, but remember, looks ain't everything, performance is!
Mathews all the way!

Not trying to sell a bow or talk anyone outa buying one, I could care less who buys one.
I'm just saying if ya hate it......Simply dont buy one.
Kinda like going into a Chevy dealership and saying how much you dislike the interior a Silverado?!?!? So ya dont like it....who cares, go to the Ford dealer and see what they got.
