Good luck Twobears. I'm going out again this week and hopefully the deer movement will increase a little. I know of a couple upgrade bucks are in the area and plenty of does. I just need one to step up to the plate.
Our rifle season opens up Monday, but I can still use a bow to hunt, so I'm not done yet.

I didn't even shave hair off him. If I'm going to miss, I want to miss completely. We'll meet again....soon. |
Well guys, you aren't going to believe this. The good news is that buck that I shot at and missed with my bow came in on the same trail with plenty of daylight left and he's hanging in my barn as I type this. He is a big 9 pointer and I'll definitely be hanging him on the wall.
Now for the bad news. When he came in I was holding a shotgun, not my bow. I sure wish I would have taken him with my bow back when I had the chance. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad to have killed him, but it would have meant more to me to have harvested him with my bow. Not to mention the points we would have gained.
I haven't taken any pictures yet. When I do I'll post them here.
Please don't hate me guys.........

Another deer down mates. Unfortunately it wont count for any points though. I thought he was bigger, but he will still eat good.
Day started very slow and all of a sudden all heck broke loose. I had tending, grunting, chasing, snort weezes, face offs, two shots, and a swift clean kill. with 2 hours I had 4 bucks and about 7 doe's, this dominant old guy was driving his self crazy with all the action.

If not needed I am. I can still shoot a doe and have until the end of the year to do it. Went out one time over the holiday for a short while. It's rifle season but I'm still able to use my bow.

I really usually just Muzzleload in December, but I see we are only winning by 1 point now, so I might take the bow and try for an upgrade buck.

Alright fellas. I found someone that wants some meat for the freezer. As long as the weather shapes up for tomorrow and Saturday, I'll be in the woods. I'm pretty sure the orange army shot one of the big bucks I have been chasing, but plenty of doe's left.

Just an update,I've got a few more weeks left. I'm kicking myself for letting them walk earlier in the season, and we're only up by 1 point. We continue to have record or near record highs down here, mid 80's. I've got a scrawny 4 point on the proptery that I was going to save for next year, but I'll decide on weather to zip him or not next week. The big 10 pt. that we had on trail cams got hit by a truck last week,he went 148,which is very nice for Fla. I'll be the guy sweating in a tree.

Yeah, I can't even imagine deer hunting in Florida. What do you wear in the tree, speedos? Never mind....that didn't conjure up a very good mental image.
I hope you kill something! I come and look every day to see if we're still in the lead. With only a 1 point lead, I figure sooner or later I'm going to see us fall from the top.
Where 'bouts in Florida are you? My family vacations every other year on Sanibel Island which is right outside of Ft Myers. We've also spent some time on the Atlantic side. Used to spend some time in Melbourne. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE to visit Florida, but I don't know if I could live there. I don't look that good in speedos....

I hope you know I was just kidding Two Bears. You did the right thing for letting the smaller ones walk. That's the way you end up seeing the big boys! I know that here in Indiana they insituted a one buck per season rule (regardless of weapon used) and it has GREATLY improved the quality of bucks in the state. If they keep the rule in place I honestly think we'll end up like some of the other states which are known for big bucks.
It took me a LONG time to get to the point where I'd let anything walk by, but I finally saw the light. The simple truth is that if you want to kill large bucks, you MUST let the small ones walk.

It appears that Team #28 understands this principal very well. You guys have put the carbon to lots of big boys this year. Congrats to your team on controlling the lead so long!

Thanks plinker, we are barely hanging on at the moment though with just a 1 point advantage. I finally made it back in from being out of town for awhile now and went out this morning for awhile after getting home. No luck though, and man it is cold.
Good luck to you TwoBears, I hope you bag one.

Everyone have a good holiday? Get any new toys?
I had a great holiday. I got myself a new chainsaw, and my parents got me a Magnus Rack Pack. This thing is very well designed and thought out. My blind attaches easy and quick, and the chair it turns into is very comfy. Also got a couple of Mountain Mike's European mounting kits for my two eights I got this year.
